Gifting guide to sustainability

Gifting can be one of the great pleasures in life. More than ever before consumers are thinking about the impact of their gifts on the environment, and looking to reduce waste.

Buying gifts from conscious businesses

Looking for that perfect gift for the people you care about? Next time you are buying a gift think about the businesses that you are buying from. Are these items good for the environment or eventually going to contribute to landfill? Items made from natural fibres such as hemp, wool, bamboo, flax and cotton are great options.

Are the businesses you are supporting practicing responsible manufacturing - not only looking after the environment but also the people that produce their products?

Hint - Hemprino fits the bill on all of the above points.

Reusable wrapping

We all take pleasure in a beautifully wrapped present but what about the big box of torn wrapping paper that is left in the corner at the end of Christmas day? This year think about what you are using to wrap your presents and what you can save to reuse again next year.

Brown kraft paper is a great option, being biodegradable, but also creating a sleek and stylish finish. Fabric is also a great option, reuse over and over again and secure with some natural twine or woollen yarn. Skip the bubblewrap - look around you to find some great alternatives in newspaper, corugated cardboard or even some old fabric. Gift bags are another good option, able to be used over and over again.

Reducing food waste

Special occasions bring together family and friends. At the end of a wonderful day, there is often plenty of food left over. Food waste is a major contributor to landfill each year. Making a meal plan for your event and the days following is a great way to not only save waste but also money. Is everyone brining a plate to contribute? Repackage leftovers for all of your guests to take home with them.
