Hemprino
Journal entry #5 | May 2025

In a world of fast fashion, fast food, and fast decisions, choosing to be conscious is a gentle step towards meaningful change.
At Hemprino, being conscious is at the heart of everything we do - from the fibres we use to the way we care for people, animals, and the planet.
But what does it actually mean to be conscious?
Conscious of What You Wear
Being conscious starts with asking questions:
Where did this garment come from? Who made it? What’s it made of? Was it produced in a way that is aligned with my values?
The answers shape the choices we make. Our garments are spun from a blend of hemp and premium ZQ-certified merino - two of nature’s finest fibres.
-
Hemp grows with minimal water and no pesticides. It cleans the soil that it grows in, leaving it better than before.
-
ZQ Merino is produced in a way that prioritises animal welfare, soil health, and full traceability.
Together, they create knitwear that is soft, strong and kind.
Conscious of the Impact
Fast fashion may be cheap at the checkout, but its hidden cost is far greater.
Waste, pollution, overproduction - the fashion industry is one of the most harmful in the world.
At Hemprino, we:
-
Produce our knitwear in small runs
-
Craft each piece in New Zealand
-
Reduce waste whereever we can
Conscious means producing only what’s needed, not what’s easiest.
Conscious of Longevity
Being conscious means thinking beyond the next season.
It’s about investing in fewer, better pieces - ones you’ll reach for again and again. Ones that wash well, wear well, and age beautifully.
Every Hemprino piece is designed to last, in both durability and style.
Conscious of Connection
We don’t believe clothes should be anonymous.
Our wool comes from Glenaan Station in Canterbury, where fourth-generation farmer Paul Ensor raises his sheep with care and respect.
Every Hemprino garment carries that connection to land, to animals, to people, and to place.
Conscious isn't a trend. It's a mindset.
And we’re proud to be part of a movement that chooses:
-
Purpose over excess
-
Quality over quantity
-
Care over convenience
